Truman Baseball Team Signs Ryan Pias
The Truman baseball team got an early present this year, signing right-handed pitcher Ryan Pias (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette High School) to a National Letter of Intent. Pias is the first player to sign early with the Bulldogs baseball team in over 10 years.
"Ryan was the number one player on our recruiting list this year and I am looking forward to working with him," said head coach Lawrence Scully. "He will be an impact player and a great addition to our pitching staff."
Pias is a senior this year at Lafayette High School. Last season, he had a 2-0 record with 32 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings pitched for Lafayette. In 2001, he compiled a 5-1 record during Lafayette's season.
Pias' best statistics came during the summer of 2001 when he pitched for the Ellisville Redbirds in the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association (SLABA). He was team MVP that year with a 10-0 record and a 1.96 ERA. In 64 2/3 innings pitched, he allowed just 18 earned runs and 44 hits and struck out 71 batters. He led the league in wins and strikeouts that year and started the SLABA all-star game. He was also a member of the SLABA all-star team in 1999 and 2000 and won two games in the 2001 NABF regional playoffs, leading his team to a second-place finish. Other baseball honors include being named the best overall pitcher at the 2001 University of Missouri winter baseball camp.
Pias, the son of Jim and Lynn Pias, also lettered in cross country for one year and basketball for three years at Lafayette. He is a member of National Honor Society and received three scholar-athlete awards and Renaissance academic awards.
