Two Bulldog Softball and Two Baseball Players Receive Academic All-District Honors

The academic all-district teams for softball and baseball, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), were announced today and four Bulldogs earned recognition. Softball player Elizabeth Economon (St. Louis/Notre Dame) was named to the first-team and now moves on the national ballot. Softball player Katy Mueller (Affton, Mo./Cor Jesu) and baseball players Coley Lewis (Chesterfield, Mo./Chaminade) and Brad Miller (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) all received second-team honors.

Economon, a senior shortstop, receives first-team honors for the first time after being a second-team selection the last two years. The two-time all-American and MIAA MVP ended one of the top careers this year by a hitter in the MIAA. She holds conference and school career records for runs, hits, RBIs, home runs and walks and also holds Truman records for total bases and games played. Among NCAA Division II career leaders, she is second in walks, tied for fourth in home runs, 14th in slugging percentage and 17th in RBIs.

This past season, she hit .404 with 48 runs and 50 RBIs. Economon hit 18 home runs, a new Truman and conference record and tying for the 13th most in NCAA Division II history for a single-season. She broke the home run record despite being walked 61 times, the second most all-time in NCAA Division II and nearly double the previous conference mark.

Economon, who has also been named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll three times, is an exercise science major with a 3.40 GPA.

Mueller, a senior centerfield, receives academic all-district honors for the first time. She has started every game in her four seasons and is tied with Economon for the most career games played at Truman. She also holds the school career record for at-bats, is ranked fifth in hits, sixth in runs and seventh in total bases and stolen bases.

This past season, she batted a career-best .311 with 20 runs and 18 RBIs. She earned her third honorable mention all-MIAA award this year and has also been named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll three times. Mueller is a psychology/pre-MAE/special education major and has a 3.50 GPA.

Lewis was named to the baseball academic all-district team for the first time with his second-team honor. He appeared in just five games on the year, including four starts, due to an injury. However, the junior pitcher led the team's starters with a 4.94 ERA and he recorded a 2-2 record. Opponents batted just .216 off of him on the year and he did not allow a home run in almost 24 innings of work.

Lewis was especially dominant in MIAA games. In three appearances, and two starts, he was 2-0 with a 0.61 ERA and conference batters hit a mere .130 against him. Other academic honors for Lewis include being named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll two times. Lewis is a history major with a 3.87 GPA.

Miller earned second-team academic all-district honors for the second straight season. The senior outfielder batted .206 in 27 games and scored nine runs and drove in four runners. He was second on the team with 12 stolen bases on the season in 15 attempts.

Miller ended his Truman career with 32 stolen bases, tying for the fifth-most in school history. He is a three-time member on the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and is a business administration major with a 3.67 GPA.
