Bulldog Football Team Makes It Two Straight
Over Drake In Season Opener
Des Moines, Iowa -- Senior Dusty Burk (Tuscola, Ill.), a transfer from Illinois
State, collected 406 yards total offense as Truman rallied to post a 38-14
nonconference victory past Drake Saturday.
Senior quarterback Ira Vandever had staked Drake to a 14-7 lead late in the second quarter after scoring on a two-yard run and throwing a 20-yard pass to sophomore Jason Jones.
But Truman scored 31 straight points to hand Drake a loss in its home opener for the first time since 1991, while Truman made it three consective season-opening wins and two-straight over DU.
Burk, who rushed for a game-high 155 yards in 12 carries, rambled 69 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage following the touchdown pass from Vandever to Jones.
He also passed for 251 yards throwing three scoring strikes including 12- and 35-yard touchdown passes to Andrew Blakley.
Drake, which is off to a 0-2 start for the first time since 1991, gained 316 yards total offense.
Blakley finished with 12 catches for 145 yards. Burk also threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Mike Redding to give Truman State a 24-14 lead.
Blakely also moved his career receiving yardage total to up to 2,638, just 184 yards from claiming the school record of 2,821 held by Rich Otte from 1980-83. It was also Blakley's second-consecutive game with at least 12 catches, after grabbing 13 in the 2001 season finale at Missouri Western, and his seventh straight with seven or more catches.
Truman netted 500 yards total offense for the day.
