Dusty Burk and Truman Hand Quincy a 69-14 Rout
The Truman Bulldogs routed Quincy (Ill.) 69-14 today as Dusty Burk led Truman with 82 rushing yards on 10 carries and completed 17-of-21 passes for 296 yards. It was his second game in a row with more than 350 yards total offense after ringing up 411 last weekend against Drake.
Truman went ahead 28-0 by 5:52 in the second quarter. Senior all-America receiver Andrew Blakley drew first blood at 5:18 in the first on a 6-yard run, followed by senior receiver Alfonso Pugh who caught an 89-yard pass from Burk at 14:03 in the second period. It was the second-longest pass TD in school history.
Senior running back Mike Redding added a one-yard scoring run a few minutes later and Blakley struck again, this time on a 12-yard pass from Burk.
Quincy scored its first points on a 3-yard run by LeVar Ammons, but the Bulldogs' senior receiver Geoff Jensen caught an 11-yard pass from Burk with three seconds left in the first half to leave the score at 35-7 in Truman's favor at the break.
Blakley added his third touchdown of the day just after intermission on a one-yard run and Pugh returned a punt 32 yards for a TD to put Truman up 49-7 with 3:00 left in the third quarter.
Junior defensive back Billy Bundy blocked the next QU punt and returned it seven yards with a 1:23 to go in the third.
Sophomore running back Mike Pope had a five-yard scoring run at 10:21 in the fourth stanza before Quincy quarterback Shane DeSherlia ran a yard to put the Hawks' final points of the day on the scoreboard.
Freshman quarter Brandon Gutshall saw the first action of his career late in the game and scored his first TD on a 5-yard run to wrap up scoring for the day.
Truman had 488 yards of total offense, but had 13 penalties for 140 yards. QU had 327 yards of total offense and also had 13 penalties, but were penalized only 89 yards.
Blakley had six catches for 70 yards to lead Truman, while senior linebacker
Judd Lienhard led the Bulldog defense with eight stops, including two tackles
for a loss of nine yards and a sack for a loss of seven yards.
