Jake Czeschin Earns MIAA And National Player Of The Week Honors
Bulldog quarterback Jake Czeschin earned MIAA offensive player of the week honors today after his record breaking performance last Saturday. He is the first Truman football player to earn a player of the week honor this season and the first offensive player to receive the award since the 2002 season.
Czeschin also earned two national honors for last week's game. He was one of four players named by Don Hansen's Football Gazette as NCAA Division II Offensive Players of the Week and was the Pizza Hut/NCAA Division II co-Offensive Player of the Week as picked by d2football.com.
Wilson®/MIAA Football Offensive Player of the Week: Jake Czeschin, Quarterback
Czeschin, a 6-foot-2, 212-pound senior from Fulton, Mo., set the MIAA record for passing yards in a game, as winless Truman nearly upset No. 3 Northwest Missouri State, 45-42, last Saturday (Oct. 23).
Czeschin was 35-of-60 for 479 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions against the Bearcats in the battle for the Old Hickory Stick. The old mark was 473 set by Northwest's John McMenamin in 2001 and equaled by Missouri-Rolla's Evan Gray last season.
He did the bulk of his damage in the second half, going 19-of-26 for 285 yards and three scores. His 50-yard pass to Justin Bodenhausen in the fourth quarter gave Truman a 42-38 lead with 3:01 left in regulation. He was 3-of-3 for 74 yards on the go-ahead drive.
The 456 yards of total offense (Czeschin lost 23 yards rushing because of sacks) set a school record as well.
Czeschin is a graduate of Fulton High School.
