Bulldogs Give Up 34 Second Quarter Points, Fall To Washburn 62-0
Washburn University (Kan.) took the opening drive of the game going 81 yards in nine plays for a touchdown and never looked back as they defeated Truman by a score of 62-0 at Stokes Stadium in Kirksville.
Ichabods quarterback Tyler Schuerman rushed for two touchdowns and threw for four more as Washburn improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Bulldogs are still winless on the season at 0-4.
Washburn's biggest output was in the second quarter as they struck on five different occasions, including two runs by Ra'Shaw Moseley. The Ichabods scored two touchdowns within seven seconds late in the half. After Cason Lehman scored on a 14 yard pass from Schuerman, the Bulldogs failed to cover the ensuing kickoff resulting in Washburn taking over at the Truman 12 yard line. One play later, Sam Sisson caught a 12 yard pass from Schuerman for the 48-0 halftime lead.
Truman only had six first downs the entire game to Washburn's 29. Bulldog quarterback Jonathan Duffy started his first game for Truman going six of 20 for 44 yards and rushing for a team high 24 yards.
Schuerman was 16 of 26 for 208 yards and was responsible for six of the seven Washburn touchdowns. Mike Odupitan was the leading receiver with 121 yards and Moseley rushed for 104 yards.
Game Notes: This was Washburn largest margin of victory in team history...Truman has now been outscored in their last two games by a total of 139-7...Washburn will host Northwest Missouri State next Saturday, while the Bulldogs will travel to Emporia State.
