2002 Truman Football Recruits Announced
Head football coach John Ware announced that 21 high school seniors have committed to play at Truman in the fall. Eleven individuals are Missouri Recruits, while five are from Illinois, two are from Texas and one each from Indiana, Kansas and Wisconsin.
The Truman Bulldogs were 8-3 overall last year and 6-3 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, finishing in a tie for fourth-place. Coach Ware completed his seventh season as head coach of the Bulldogs and is 44-32 during that time and is 41-22 in the MIAA. Truman made three postseason trips in the '90s and had the 1996 NCAA Division II player of the year, Harlon Hill winner Jarrett Anderson. Truman's all-time passing leader, quarterback Eric Howe, was one of eight finalists for the Harlon Hill in 2001.
Missouri Recruits
A.J. Eads
Webster Groves, Mo. (John Burroughs H.S.)
Running Back, 5-9, 175
Eads was a member of the 2A state champion football team that went 13-0 in 2001. He earned first-team all-state and all-conference honors at running back and finished the season as the 10th-leading scorer in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. Eads was named the St. Louis Post Dispatch's athlete of the week once this past year.
As a junior, Eads was an honorable mention all-Metro pick, as well as first-team all-conference.
As a senior, he rushed for 1,353 yards on 190 carries (7.12 ypr) and had 128 yards receiving, and a total of 20 touchdowns. His junior season, he carried the ball for 1,153 yards on 157 carries (7.34 ypr) and had 19 TDs. He set school records for most TDs in a game (6) and is third all-time on the schools single season rushing list.

Offensive/Defensive Lineman, 6-1, 230
Lyons was a second-team all-state defensive end in the 2001, also earning first-team all-district honors as both an offensive and defensive lineman. An academic honor roll selection at KHS, he was also a first-team all-North Central Missouri Conference pick at both positions.
Josh Mayson
Mexico, Mo. (Mexico H.S.)
Defensive Back, 6-2, 185
Mayson was an all-district and all-conference wide receiver as a junior and earned all-conference honors as a defensive back this past season. He was also a member of the school's state championship track team.
His twin brother, Richard, will also join the team in the fall.

This past season, Mayson was a first-team all-North Central Missouri Conference tight end and was a second-team all-league defensive end. He also earned first-team all-district recognition as a TE and was second-team all-district at DE. Mayson is a National Merit finalist and was a member of 2001 Missouri state championship track team. His twin brother, Josh, will also join the team in the fall.

Norris was a first-team all-Suburban South conference pick, as well as a second-team all-area (west) choice as a defensive lineman. He also earned honorable mention all-Metro recognition and served as team captain this past season.
Keith Painter
Monroe City, Mo. (Monroe City H.S.)
Defensive End, 6-1, 220
Painter was a first-team unanimous all-conference defensive lineman, as well as a first-team all-league offensive lineman. He also earned first-team all-area and all-district honors at both positions.
Painter was named conference MVP as a senior and was the KHQA TV "Duer Die" defensive player of the year. As a junior, he was a second-team all-state defensive lineman.

James Perry

Wide Receiver, 6-0, 179
Perry was a second-team all-conference pick as a junior and senior, and earned honorable mention all-league recognition as a sophomore. He was named his team's MVP this past season. Perry caught 77 passes for 1,505 yards during his three-year career and holds school records for the longest TD reception (92 yards) and longest interception return for a touchdown (99 yards).

Andrew Pitts

Defensive Back, 6-0, 175
Pitts was a first team all-North Central Missouri Conference defensive back in 2001 and also collected first team all-district accolades as a senior, both as a defensive back and running back. Pitts will also play baseball at Truman.
Mike Shelden
Eureka, Mo. (Eureka H.S.)
Offensive Lineman, 6-3, 250
This past season, Shelden was a first-team all-conference, all-area and all-state class 4A offensive lineman, as well as a St. Louis all-metro pick. He was also a district champion wrestler at 275 pounds. Shelden's football team was 9-1 this past campaign and the Surburban South Conference champion. The team posted a two-year record of 17-3.

Defensive Lineman, 6-3, 280
Smith was a first-team all-state and all-district defensive lineman, and earned first-team all-district and all-area honors as an offensive lineman. He was an all-state thrower and will perform for the Truman track and field team as well.

Yokeley was a first-team all-North Central Conference, all-district and all-state defensive back, as well as a member of the KMZU Dream Team as a senior this past season.

Leverson was an honorable mention all-SICA Gray choice as a senior this past season. He was also named academic all-state by the Illinois Football Coaches Association.

Morell was named first-team all-conference both as an offensive and defensive lineman. He was also all-area on the offensive line and was named MVP of the offensive line for his high school team.

Poulous was a three-time first-team all-conference on defense and a two-time first-team all-conference choice on offense as a tight end. He was twice named all-Macon County and has been listed among the 2001 Champaign News-Gazette's top 100 football players in Illinois. Poulous was also a member of the academic all-state team. He was named co-defensive MVP of his team and served as a team captain.

Cole Voigt

Voigt was a four-time all-conference quarterback and was named to the coaches' all-state team this past year. He was a member of the academic all-state team, and was listed in the Illinois coaches Association magazine as one of the Top 26 incoming seniors for 2001. Voigt served as team captain and was voted MVP and most dedicated by his team. His is also a captain on the basketball team.

As a senior, Reddick was a first-team all-conference quarterback and was named honorable mention all-area by the Chicago Sun Times. He was also named his team's MVP and was an Illinois Football Coaches Association academic all-state choice.
Reddick was first-team all-conference and named second-team all-area by the Hammond Times as a junior.

Defensive Back, 5-10, 180 pounds
Giglio was a member of two district championship football teams in 2000 and 2001, and the 2001 team went on to become the regional champion, advancing to the state semi-finals. He was named first-team all-district as a defensive back and also served as co-captain for the team.

Offensive Lineman, 6-3, 230
Holman was an Associated Press second-team all-state offensive lineman and was a third-team all-state 5A pick by the Texas Sports Writers Association. He was a unanimous first-team all-district selection as well as a first-team all-area pick for central Texas. Holman was the team's offensive lineman of the year and was named player of the game eight times as a senior. His team posted a record of 22-2 during Holman's two years as a starter for an offense that averaged 419 yards a game.

Quinn Sullivan

Offensive Lineman, 6-1, 285
Sullivan was a unanimous first-team all-Fox Valley Association offensive lineman this past season, as well as the conference offensive lineman of the year. He was also named first-team all-district by the Wisconsin Football coaches Association.
As a junior, Sullivan was a first-team all-conference offensive lineman.
