Craddock and Wade Scholarships Awarded to Three Members of Football Squad
Three members of the Truman State University football team were awarded scholarships established in memory of former Bulldog coaches Maurice "Red" Wade and Bruce Craddock.
The Wade Scholarship was awarded to linebacker Jake Willrich (Grimes, Iowa/Dallas Center-Grimes) and running back Carl Swenson (Marshalltown, Iowa). Willrich and Swenson qualified for the award after demonstrating characteristics such as determination, perseverance and a willingness to work hard, as well as a strong academic record.
As a redshirt freshman in 1999, Willrich finished sixth in total tackles with 63, and had a fumble recovery and blocked kick. Swenson had 17 carries for 41 yards as the starting fullback and was also a redshirt freshman this past season.
Wade recorded the most wins of any Bulldog coach, posting a record of 99-41-2 from 1951-66.
Running back Michael Redding (Lake Zurich, Ill.) was presented with the Craddock scholarship after demonstrating a willingness to work hard and contribute to the success of the team, as well as promoting citizenship and leadership. Redding rushed for 307 yards on 100 attempts and scored three touchdowns to finish second on the team among ground-gainers.
Craddock served as Bulldog head coach from 1979-82 and compiled a record of 24-19 during that time.
