Truman Football Falls on Homecoming to Washburn
The Washburn football team stunned the Bulldogs and their homecoming crowd with a 26-21 win on Saturday afternoon at Stokes Stadium. The win was the first for the Ichadbods as they are now 1-5 on the season and 1-3 in MIAA play. Truman falls to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Dustin Hickel had a big afternoon for Washburn, passing for 216 yards and two touchdowns and running for 104 yards and another touchdown. Mike Redding had 104 rushing yards and two of Truman's scores. Dusty Burk threw for 186 yards and rushed for 65. Andrew Blakely was the leading Bulldog receiver with 10 catches for 76 yards.
The Bulldogs led at halftime by a 14-6 margin following a pair of touchdown runs by Redding. Washburn came out, however, and scored the first 20 points of the second-half on a touchdown run by Hickel and two touchdown passes to Sam Sissom. Truman got within five following a touchdown pass to Geoff Jensen with 8:36 left in the game. The Bulldogs got the ball around midfield twice after that but couldn't convert a game-winning drive.
Truman will be in action next Saturday at Missouri Southern.
