Missouri Western-86, Truman-69

Five Missouri Western players scored in double-figures as the Griffons defeated Truman on Wednesday by a 86-69 score at Pershing Arena in Kirksville.

Turnovers played a key role in the game. Truman turned the ball over 25 times, which led to 23 Griffon points, while Missouri Western turned the ball over just12 times for seven Bulldog points.

Missouri Western took control of the game in the first-half, opening up a 46-31 lead before the intermission. The Bulldogs led just once at 2-0 before the Griffons took over. Their lead was 24-19 with 8:36 remaining in the half when a 19-7 run gave Missouri Western its largest lead at 17.

Truman cut the deficit to single-digits once in the final half, but the Griffons were able to keep the score in the 10-15 point range for most of the remainder of the game.

Danielle McKinley led Missouri Western with 22 points. Eldra Paixao added 17 points, a team-high seven assists and tied for the team-high with six rebounds.

Truman was paced by Sarah Sommer with 23 points and eight rebounds. Jamie Huffman added 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Missouri Western-67, Truman-61

The Griffons struggled from the free throw line for most of the night, but hit some key shots down the stretch as they escaped Kirksville with a 67-61 road victory over Truman.

Missouri Western held the lead for most of the second-half, but Truman was within two points twice in the final minute. Both times, the Griffons went to the line and knocked down both shots to keep it a two-possession ballgame. Missouri Western would go on to win as the Bulldogs would miss their final three field goal attempts

Missouri Western was led by the duo of Robert Bishop and Langston who scored 16 and 15 points, respectively. Steve Carter added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Truman had a player record a double-double for the third straight game. This time it was Matt Beran who had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Grant Agbo had a team-high 15 points and Chip Sodemann was in double-figures with 11.
