Missouri Western-99, Truman-60
The Missouri Western women's basketball team won their 5th straight game, defeating Truman State 99-60 in front of 1,100 fans at the MWSC Fieldhouse Wednesday night.
The Griffons move to 18-6 overall, 10-5 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and stand in 4th place among the league members.Western had four players in double digit scoring led by junior guard Eldra Paixao with a game-high 27 points. Paixao went 11-of-16 from the field with three rebounds, six steals and three assists for Western. Senior Danielle McKinley went for 26 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Truman falls to 8-15 overall, 2-13 in the MIAA. The Buldogs were led
by Sarah Sommer with a
team-high 10 points in the game.
Men's Basketball Recap
Missouri Western-90, Truman-79 (OT)
The Missouri Western men's basketball team hung on for its MIAA tournament life Wednesday night at the MWSC Fieldhouse. The Griffons needed an overtime period to defeat the Bulldogs of Truman State University 90-79 in front of 1,400 fans.
Western (12-12 overall, 6-9 in the MIAA) trailed by 2-points, 72-70 with :07 seconds remaining when junior guard Robert Bishop dribbled the length of the floor and tied the game with a lay-up at the :.04 second mark to send the game into OT.
Western outscored the Bulldogs 18-7 in the overtime period to move to 7th place in the MIAA with a UMR loss vs. Southwest Baptist on Wednesday. Junior forward Langston Grady went for a game-high 25 points, on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Junior guard Fred Battles had a 22-point outing for the Griffons. Battles went 3-of-5 from beyond the 3-point line.
Two other Griffs were in double figures as DeVonte King added 18 points and Robert Bishop had 11.
Truman falls to 6-18 on the year, 3-12 in the MIAA. TSU had four players in double figures, led by Grant Agbo's 12 points.
