Men's Basketball Signs One Player To A National Letter of Intent
Truman head men's basketball coach Jack Schrader announced today that Nick Certa (Alton, Ill./Alton-Marquette) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bulldogs next season.
Certa, who will play one of the wing positions at Truman, averaged 17 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.4 blocks as a senior at Alton-Marquette. He shot 50.5% from the field, 33% from three-point range and 78% from the free throw line. He ended his high school career with over 1,100 points.
He was named third-team all-state last year and was twice named first-team all-conference. Following his senior year, he also earned team MVP honors, was the Alton Telegraph Area Player of the Year, a Bellville News Democrat first-team all-area selection and was a basketball all-metro honorable mention pick.
Certa is very athletic and a good perimeter shooter, which he demonstrated by twice being selected to participate in the Illinois State Slam Dunk and Three-Point contests.
Certa was also a first-team all-state performer in soccer and named the 2003 Alton Telegraph all-Area Player of the Year and the Bellville News Democrat Player of the Year. He scored 33 goals during his high school soccer career.
"We are excited to have Nick coming to Truman," said Schrader. "He can play any of the perimeter position and his athleticism and shooting skills are an important combination that will really help us out."
