Northwest Missouri-85, Truman-68

Northwest Missouri remained perfect in MIAA play with a 85-68 road victory over Truman on Wednesday night.

The game was decided in the first-half as the Bearcats jumped out to a 43-26 halftime lead. Truman was held to just 25.9% shooting from the field in the period and turned the ball over 14 times. The Bulldogs led 3-2 when Northwest Missouri went on a 16-2 run to open up a 13-point lead. Another 8-0 run later in the half pushed the Bearcats' advantage up to 18 points.

Truman played even with Northwest Missouri in the second-half, with both teams scoring 42 points, but the Bulldogs could never get within striking distance to get back in the game.

Northwest Missouri hit 12 three-pointers in the contest and was 15-of-16 from the free throw line. Truman hit eight from beyond the arc, seven coming in the final half.

The Bearcats were led by Sarah Vollertsen who had 19 points and seven rebounds. Erica Hatterman, Brooke Hogue and Laura Friederich were all in double-figure scoring. Jane Chalmers had a game-high six assists.

Truman was led by Adri Tromp who had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Sommer added 14 points and eight rebounds and Kelli Floyd also tied for the team-high with 14 points.

Northwest Missouri-68, Truman-63

Northwest Missouri's Kelvin Parker showed why he is the MIAA's top scorer, leading his team to a road victory over Truman. The Bulldogs overcame a 19-point deficit to grab the lead, but once again suffered a close loss, as Truman fell to the second-ranked team in the country by a 68-63 score.

Parker scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the second-half, including eight after Truman had taken its only lead of the game at 58-57 with 2:34 left. His biggest basket came with 43 seconds left when he broke a 61-61 tie with a three-point play after being fouled while converting a layup.

Truman turned the ball over its next possession, leading to two made free throws by the Bearcats' Sky Wilson. The Bulldogs quickly drove down and made a layup to make the score 66-63 and Parker was fouled with four seconds left. Truman had a slimmer of hope when Parker missed the first shot, but he drained the second free throw to seal the Bearcats' victory.

The Bulldogs came out cold from the field in the first-half and quickly fell behind 31-12. They used a 12-2 run to get back into things and were only down 35-24 at the break.

In the second-half, Truman was on fire from the field, shooting 69.6% from the field and hitting six-of-10 from the three-point line. The Bearcats had their largest lead of the half at 46-35, but Truman went on a 13-3 run to tie the ballgame. However, Northwest Missouri was able to hang on down the stretch, handing the Bulldogs another heartbreaking loss.

Truman outshot and outrebounded the Bearcats for the game. However, the Bulldogs turned the ball over four more times, which led to Northwest Missouri scoring 17 points off turnovers, compared to just four for the Bulldogs. The Bearcats also went to line 16 more times and made 12 more charity shots than Truman.

Wilson and Byron Jackson joined Parker in double-figure scoring as both had 12 points. Austin Meyer led Northwest Missouri with four rebounds and tied with Parker for the team-high with three assists.

Matt Brock continued his hot-shooting of late for Truman. He led the team with a career-high 18 points, including five three-pointers. Grant Agbo kept his double-figure scoring streak alive with 12 points. Andy Calmes paced the squad with six boards.
