Men's Basketball Team Announces an Early Signee

Head men's basketball coach Jack Schrader announced on Monday the team's first signee for the early signing period for the 2002-03 season.

Garret Grimm, a 6-10 and 210-pound center from Macomb High School, intends to join the Bulldog basketball program next year.

"Garret's a very skilled and athletic player, a tough and hard-nosed kid," Schrader said. "He's a versatile athlete. He was his team's representative in the Illinois State High School three-point shooting contest. And he comes from a very good high school basketball program, too."

Grimm is just beginning his senior season with the Macomb squad, a team that is currently ranked No. 2 among Illinois small schools. Last year, he helped Macomb to a 23-6 record and averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks per game.

Grimm also serves as a tight end and defensive end on the MHS football team, a qualifier for the state playoffs. Additionally, he has been a competitor on his high school's track & field team.
