Truman: The Bulldogs raised their record to 2-3 on the season with a 75-46 home win over Westminster on Dec. 5. Truman picked up its other win on Nov. 27 in a 92-59 decision over Hannibal-LaGrange. The three losses came on the road against Division I Southeast Missouri and Drury, and at home to an upstart Lincoln squad.
In their first five games, the 'Dogs have made their presence felt on the glass, out-rebounding three of their first four opponents. Truman averages 40.8 rebounds per game and is holding its opponents to an average of 33.6 boards for a margin of +7.2 rebounds per game. The Bulldogs have nearly doubled up their opponents on the offensive glass, pulling down 62 offensive boards on the year, compared to 35 for their opponents.
Senior forward Brian Brown (Centralia, Mo.) is nearly averaging a double-double, with team-highs of 19.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He is shooting 55.6 percent from the field (35-of-63).
Joining Brown in double-figure scoring are junior forward Scott Coykendall (Elmwood, Ill./Spoon River JC) (11.8 ppg) and junior guard Nathan Owen (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Southeast Missouri State) (10.0 ppg).
Senior guard Mike Peterson (Mason City, Iowa) isn't far back, averaging 9.6 points to go with his team-high 2.6 steals per game.
Truman vs. Westminster (DEC. 5): After a back-and-forth battle early, the Bulldogs seized the lead for good with 7:34 to play in the first half and closed the period by outscoring the Blue Jays 15-7 in a 75-46 win over Westminster on Dec. 5.
In the second half, the Blue Jays managed just six field goals and shot 24 percent from the field (6-of-25), while Truman connected on 56 percent (14-of-25) of its second-half attempts. The end result was a 23-7 second-half opening run that ultimately put the 'Dogs up by as much as 32 points.
Coykendall finished with a game and career-high 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 8-of-8 from the foul line. Brown added 15 points and Owen had a career-best 14. Peterson and freshman guard Aaron Mueller (St. Louis/Lutheran North) had four and three steals, respectively.
About Quincy (2-3): Since a season-opening 102-69 win over Harris Stowe State College on Nov. 20, the Hawks have lost three of four and come in with a 2-3 overall record. But Quincy's latest game, a 64-48 win over GLVC opponent Missouri-St. Louis, broke a three-game losing skid. Sophomore center Brian McNeil, QU's leading scorer, poured in 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Hawks past the visiting Rivermen on Saturday.
McNeil averages a team-best 21.0 points (tied for 26th in Division II) and also leads the squad in rebounding with a mark of 8.0 boards per game. The 6-9 McNeil is shooting 52.9 percent from the floor (37-of-70) and 72.1 percent at the charity stripe (31-of-43).

About Monmouth (3-3): Monmouth comes off a 78-76 win on Dec. 8 over MacMurray College (Ill.), and the team knows all about close games, as its three wins have come by a combined four points. The Fighting Scots opened with a 90-76 road loss to Central Missouri, then won 108-107 in a three-overtime affair with Eureka (Ill.). They then fell to Doane (Neb.) 100-95, beat Knox (Ill.) 74-73 and lost 81-75 to Illinois College before their latest win.
Four Fighting Scots average double figures in scoring, lead by junior forward Kenny Spranger at 16.8 points per game. Spranger has scored in double digits five times this season, including a 27-point effort in the win over MacMurray. Junior forward Jeff Stenoish, who had 29 points of his own in the Dec. 8 win, averages 15.2 points. Junior guards Steve Glasgow and Greg Kloepping average 13.7 and 11.8 points, respectively.
