TRUMAN (4-7, 0-4 MIAA): The Bulldogs conclude a three-game road trip, their longest of the season, on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Bolivar, Mo. to meet the Southwest Baptist Bearcats.

Still searching for its first MIAA win of the season, Truman has played each of the top four teams in the conference's preseason poll. And Truman's 0-4 league record could be a little deceiving. Two of the Bulldogs' MIAA losses have been by a combined four points, losing 75-73 at home to Missouri Southern and 75-73 on the road at Washburn (Kan.). Southern and Washburn were the two preseason favorites to win the conference title. Truman's four MIAA opponents so far have a combined record of 12-4.

The 'Dogs opened the conference slate with an 81-67 home loss to Central Missouri before falling to MSSC at home. Truman then suffered another tough loss at Washburn, before taking its most recent defeat, an 81-66 decision at Missouri Western.

The Bulldogs entered conference play with a 4-3 ledger, with wins over Hannibal-LaGrange (92-59), Westminster (75-46), Monmouth (Ill.) (78-72) and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (87-59). Their losses came versus Lincoln (78-69) and on the road at Drury (76-64) and Missouri-St. Louis (61-34).

ABOUT THE BEARCATS (1-8, 0-4 MIAA): Southwest Baptist has dropped six in a row entering Saturday's game, including a 71-59 decision at Missouri Southern on Wednesday night. But the Bearcats came within a whisker of upsetting conference leader and seventh-ranked Northwest Missouri State on Monday, in falling 62-60 at home.

Four Bearcats average double figures in scoring, led by junior forward/center Igor Majoros, who averages 15.4 points to go with a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game. He ranks 10th in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding.

Newcomer Tyrone Gardner averages 12.7 points with seven rebounds per game, while senior guard Robby Hoegh averages 12.3 points. Sophomore guard Ryan Stock rounds out SBU's double-digit scorers, averaging 10.3 points per game.

Stock is fourth in the conference in assists (4.11 pg), seventh in steals (2.11 pg) and ninth in assist-turnover ratio (1.12). Hoegh ranks 20th in scoring, seventh in assists (3.67 pg), third in threes made (2.44 pg), ninth in three-point percentage (.373) and third in assist-turnover ratio (1.94).

Gardner and Michal Gabani (9.5 ppg) have joined the team of late. Gardner has hit 13 of his first 14 free throws, while Gabani averages 6.0 rebounds and is an 80 percent free throw shooter.

SBU is second in the MIAA in free throw percentage (.722) and is also a solid rebounding club, ranking second in rebounding offense (39.1 rpg) and defensive rebounds (25.56 pg).

The Bearcats opened the season with back-to-back 81-74 losses at the hands of Evangel and Drury. They then captured their lone win in a 95-62 victory over Harris-Stowe. SBU ended the non-conference schedule with an 88-61 loss to Tampa (Fla.) and a 70-65 defeat versus Eckerd (Fla.). In league action, the Bearcats have losses to Missouri-Rolla (72-64) and Washburn (88-59) in addition to the defeats by NWMSU and MSSC.

COACHES RECORDS: Bulldog head coach Jack Schrader is in his sixth season at Truman and has a record of 77-74 for a winning percentage of .510. He is 6-2 against Southwest Baptist.

Darrin Archer is in his second year as the Bearcats taskmaster. He has a 9-25 (.265) record both for his career and at SBU.

After Missouri Western led 41-38 at halftime and extended the lead to eight points early in the second half, Truman used a 16-9 spurt, keyed by two three-pointers from sophomore Jiri Mikl (Ostrava, Czech Republic/University Laboratory HS-Urbana, Ill.), to get to within 59-58 at the 10:10 mark. Five minutes later, the Bulldogs were still well within striking distance, trailing 67-62 on the strength of back-to-back Coykendall buckets. That's when the Griffons kicked off their decisive, game-ending rally that gave them their largest lead of the game at the final horn.

The first half saw Truman hold several leads, the last of which came with 5:49 left with the 'Dogs up 25-24. Western would manage to lead by eight with 53 seconds to go before the half, but a quick Peterson three and a dunk by Brown cut it to 41-38 at the break.

Brown paced the Bulldog attack with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Mikl and Coykendall both finished with 13. Peterson had 12 points, all in the first half, and was 4-of-8 from three-point land.
