TRUMAN (5-9, 1-6 MIAA): Coming off their first conference win of the season and the snapping of a six-game losing streak, Truman suffered a 71-58 setback on Saturday to Emporia State (Kan.). The Bulldogs were coming off a 68-58 upset win over No. 5 Northwest Missouri earlier in the week, a win that capped a span in which Truman faced five of the top six teams in the conference standings. The 'Dogs took two losses over that stretch by a combined four points versus Missouri Southern and Washburn (Kan.), two favorites to win the MIAA this season.
The 'Dogs opened the conference slate with an 81-67 home loss to Central Missouri before falling 75-73 at home to MSSC. Truman then suffered another tough 75-73 loss at Washburn, took an 81-66 defeat at Missouri Western and fell on Saturday, 61-52, at Southwest Baptist before collecting Wednesday's 68-58 victory over Northwest. Then came the 71-58 loss to Emporia on Saturday.
The Bulldogs entered conference play with a 4-3 ledger, with wins over Hannibal-LaGrange (92-59), Westminster (75-46), Monmouth (Ill.) (78-72) and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (87-59). Their losses came versus Lincoln (78-69) and on the road at Drury (76-64) and Missouri-St. Louis (61-34).
