Truman (5-10, 1-6 MIAA): The Bulldogs enter Wednesday's game hoping to snap a two-game skid and bring an end to a recent shooting slump. After collecting their first MIAA win, a 68-58 decision a week ago over then No. 5 Northwest Missouri State, the 'Dogs have followed with a 71-58 loss on Saturday to Emporia State (Kan.) and a 59-47 road defeat versus Quincy (Ill.) on Monday.
Three Bulldogs average double figures in the scoring column, led by senior forward Brian Brown (Centralia, Mo.) who averages a team-best 14.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He's coming off of his third double-double of the season, as he netted 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to Quincy, despite playing only 24 minutes due to foul trouble. Brown began the week ranked in the MIAA top 10 in rebounding, field goal percentage and blocked shots.
Junior forward Scott Coykendall (Elmwood, Ill./Spoon River College) is second on the team at 13.7 points, followed by senior guard Mike Peterson (Mason City, Iowa) at 11.7 points per game.
About the Miners (4-11, 2-5 MIAA): UMR will be looking to end a five-game losing streak when they host Truman on Wednesday. Freshman center Brian Westre not only leads the team in scoring and rebounding, but he also leads the MIAA in those categories with averages of 21.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Through games of Jan. 21, Westre was 19th in NCAA Division II in scoring and seventh in rebounding with an MIAA-best nine double-doubles. Westre is also the conference leader in blocked shots (1.8 pg) and is sixth in field goal percentage (.544).

Withers, who is day-to-day after dislocating a shoulder a week ago versus Missouri Western, ranked fourth in the MIAA with 17.5 points per game, and is also second in assists (6.0 pg, 19th in NCAA-II), third in free throw percentage (.823) and fifth in three-pointers made (2.29 pg).
With junior forward Bob Tebbe (11.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg), the Miners boast the league's top two rebounders. Meanwhile guards Ben Wood (8.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg), a senior, and freshman Brad Fischer (7.7 ppg, 1.5 rpg) combine with Withers for 99 of UMR's 103 three-pointers. Fischer shoots 38.8 percent from outside the arc, while Wood is a 35.8 percent three-point shooter. Withers is shooting just 31.7 percent from outside, but has made 32 triples in his 14 games of action.
The Miners opened the season with a win over William Penn (Iowa), 81-52, but then dropped their next four to Southeast Missouri, 87-63, Lincoln, 92-78 and 100-83, and Rockhurst, 67-53.
