Truman (6-11, 2-7 MIAA): Truman comes in looking for its third MIAA win of the season with hopes of gaining some ground in the standings. A win by the Bulldogs on Wednesday would pull them to within a game of Central Missouri.
Truman's two wins in conference play came via 68-58 decision over then No. 5-ranked Northwest Missouri and last week in a 59-45 victory over Missouri-Rolla. The 'Dogs have been on the verge of two more upsets in MIAA action, falling by a combined four points to Missouri Southern and Washburn (Kan.) earlier this month.
Three Bulldogs average double figures in the scoring column, led by senior forward Brian Brown (Centralia, Mo.) who averages a team-best 14.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Brown comes in ranked in the MIAA top 10 in rebounding, field goal percentage and blocked shots, and is just outside the top 10 in scoring.
Junior forward Scott Coykendall (Elmwood, Ill./Spoon River College) is second on the team at 13.4 points, followed by senior guard Mike Peterson (Mason City, Iowa) at 11.4 points per game.
But the hottest Bulldog is currently sophomore Jiri Mikl (Ostrava, Czech Republic/University Laboratory HS-Urbana, Ill.). A game after collecting career-highs with 22 points and 10 rebounds in Wednesday's win at UMR, Mikl followed up with a team-leading 15-point effort in Saturday's loss to Pittsburg State. Mikl is averaging 10.7 points in his last nine games, compared with 1.8 in the first eight. He has connected on nine of his last 10 three-point attempts, spanning the last game and a half.
About the Mules (9-8, 4-5 MIAA): Central Missouri was a 70-51 winner on Saturday over Emporia State (Kan.), as senior guard Daryl Greene scored a game-high 20 points off the bench to lead the Mules. The win raised CMSU's record to 6-2 at home.
Four Mules currently average double digits in the scoring column, led by junior forward/center Chris McSwain's 15.4 points per game average, which ranks seventh in the MIAA. Senior guard/forward Sean Price and Greene average 14.2 points to tie for 11th in the league, while junior Ryan Williams averages 10.2 points. McSwain continues to lead the Mules on the glass, averaging 5.8 boards per contest. Junior guard B.J. Jefferson has dished out a team-high 68 assists (4.25 pg), while Price and Greene have 28 and 26 steals, respectively to rank seventh and tied for 10th in the conference.
McSwain is ranked No. 3 in the league with a 59.2 field goal percentage. Price leads the conference in three-pointers made (54, 3.38 pg) and is ranked ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.367). Greene is seventh in three-point percentage (.424) and is also among the leaders with a 86.1 free throw percentage. Jefferson is sixth in both assists and assist-turnover ratio (1.55).
CMSU has lost four of its last six since an 86-74 home win over Pittsburg State on Jan. 8. The Mules followed their 81-67 road win over Truman in the MIAA opener with a 91-67 road defeat at Missouri Western. After beating PSU, Central fell 84-68 at home to Northwest Missouri and bounced back with an 82-68 victory at home against UMR. They lost 101-61 at Washburn, 85-63 at Missouri Southern and 86-79 at home to Southwest Baptist before getting Saturday's win.
