MIAA SAAC Food Drive: The MIAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, in cooperation with the Truman Captains' Round Table, will sponsor a food drive to benefit the Kirksville Salvation Army. Fans who
bring one non-perishable food item to the Feb. 10 or 21 men's or women's basketball games will gain free admission. Also, from Feb. 10-24, Truman student-athletes will be collecting canned food items door-to-door throughout the community. Truman (6-13, 2-9 MIAA): Truman comes in looking for its third MIAA win of the season with hopes of gaining some ground in the standings. A Truman win, coupled with a loss by Southwest Baptist, would pull the 'Dogs to within a game of seventh-place SBU with a head-to-head meeting scheduled with SBU later this week. But the 'Dogs will have to do it against a Washburn (Kan.) club that currently sits atop the MIAA.
Truman's two wins in conference play came via 68-58 decision over then No. 5-ranked Northwest Missouri and a 59-45 victory over Missouri-Rolla. The 'Dogs have been on the verge of two more upsets in MIAA action, falling by a combined four points last month to Missouri Southern and, tonight's opponent, Washburn.
Three Bulldogs average double figures in the scoring column, led by senior forward Brian Brown (Centralia, Mo.) who averages a team-best 13.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Brown comes in ranked among MIAA leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
Junior forward Scott Coykendall (Elmwood, Ill./Spoon River College) is second on the team at 12.5 points, followed by senior guard Mike Peterson (Mason City, Iowa) at 10.8 points per game.
But since conference play tipped off, the hottest Bulldog has been sophomore Jiri Mikl (Ostrava, Czech Republic/University Laboratory HS-Urbana, Ill.). Mikl is averaging 10.1 points in his last 11 games, compared with 1.8 in the first eight. He's shooting 51 percent from beyond the arc and 50 percent from the field. He has led the team in three of their last four games, including a 22-point, 10-rebound effort vs. Missouri-Rolla for his first ever double-double.
Another new face to make an impact has been freshman Torre Finley (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield). He has scored 27 points in the last three games (9.0 ppg), while collecting over half his minutes (71). In the first 16 contests, Finley played just 69 minutes and scored only seven points.
Washburn (16-3, 9-2 MIAA): Washburn has won six straight games by an average of 22 points. The Ichabods come in ranked No. 11 in today's NABC/Division II Bulletin poll, first in the South Central Region, and are one of the top field goal shooting teams in the nation. Through games of Jan. 28, WU was fourth in Division II in that category, and it is currently shooting 51.6 percent from the field.
Four Ichabods average double figures in scoring, led by senior guard Randolph Williams at 14.2 points per game, for 12th in the conference. Senior center Ewan Auguste is next at 13.5 points (tied for 17th in MIAA), followed by sophomore forward Ryan Murphy at 13.1 (20th in MIAA). Senior forward Eric Carter rounds out the group, with an average of 12.1 points an outing. Auguste, last year's conference player of the year, is the club's top rebounder at 7.2 rebounds per game (sixth in the MIAA) and is second in the league and 19th in the nation with a 61.5 field goal percentage. He also averages 0.84 blocks, eighth in the league. Junior guard Shannon Kruger is second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.462).
As a team, WU is 12th in NCAA-II in rebounding margin and 14th in both scoring margin and three-point field goal percentage.
Washburn comes off a 82-62 win over Southwest Baptist on Saturday. Williams led the way with 16 points, while Auguste finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Murphy also tallied 15 points, and D.J. Walker added 11.
Coaches Records: Bulldog head coach Jack Schrader is in his sixth season at Truman and has a record of 79-80. He is 5-6 versus Washburn.
Bob Chipman is in his 22nd year as a head coach and has spent each year on the Ichabods' sideline. He has a career record of 500-176 (.740).

Bulldogs in the MIAA (Through games of Feb. 3): Truman continues to lead the MIAA in defensive rebounds (25.95 pg) and is ranked second in scoring defense (66.0 ppg allowed) and third in field goal defense (opponents shooting .424).
Individually, Brown ranks in a 17th-place tie in the MIAA in scoring with an average of 13.5 points per game. He's also eighth in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and sixth in blocked shots (0.95 pg).
Peterson is ninth in steals (1.53 pg), seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.393) and tied for eighth in three-pointers made per game (1.74).
Freshman Matt Beran (Victor, Iowa/HLV-Victor) is ninth in blocked shots (0.79 pg).
Truman vs. Missouri Southern (Feb. 3): The Bulldogs managed just 18 first-half points and shot only 30.6 percent from the field on Saturday in a 70-43 loss at Missouri Southern. Meanwhile, the Lions shot 50 percent from the floor, including 46.2 percent from beyond the arc.
Torre Finley finished with 10 points to lead Truman, while Brown and Coykendall added nine and eight points, respectively.
MSSC outrebounded the 'Dogs 36-32 and forced Truman into 17 turnovers.
Bulldogs Among Career Leaders: Brown remains 14th in among Truman's all-time scoring leaders with 1,101 points. He needs 15 points to tie Jack Beck for 13th on the career list. Now with 488 career rebounds Brown passed Steve Horton for 19th on that career chart and stands nine boards behind Dan Storck. Brown also ranks seventh on the career free throws list with 265, tying Brian Basich for sixth place all-time, and is tied for 22nd in career assists with 153. He also stands in sixth place on the Bulldogs' career blocked shots list with 58. With 11 more, he'll tie Rick Rigsbee for fifth place.
Peterson remains sixth in career three-pointers with 149, which is 15 behind fifth-place Jason Ramthun. He's 13th in career free throws with 191 and remains 20th in career assists with 181, but has closed to within six of 19th-place Justin Matthews. Peterson is also 164 points shy of joining the 1,000-point club.

TRUMAN @ WASHBURN (JAN. 8, 2001): The Bulldogs led 63-57 with 4:58 to play, but couldn't hold on, as then-No. 21 Washburn rallied for a 75-73 win over Truman earlier this year. It marked the 'Dogs second two-point loss in as many games.
After the Ichabods led 38-36 at halftime, Truman took its first lead since midway through the first half when Coykendall hit two free throws with 16:17 to play. WU reclaimed the lead seconds later, and went up by four with 11:57 to go. Jiri Mikl connected on a three-pointer that trimmed the lead to one and keyed the 'Dogs on a 16-6 run, which would ultimately extend the margin to 63-57 with 4:58 to play. But the Bulldogs couldn't hold on, as Washburn outscored Truman 18-10 over the final 4:58.
Two Coykendall free throws tied the score at 68 with 1:28 to go, but the Ichabods hit five of their last six free throws. Truman had a chance for the win in the waning seconds, but Coykendall's three-point attempt was off the mark.
Coykendall finished with 20 points to lead five Bulldogs in double-figures. Mikl matched his career high with 13 points, while Brown and Nathan Owen each added 11. Peterson ended with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Beran charted six rebounds and two blocks.
