Bulldog Basketball Adds Junior College Transfer
Truman State University head men's basketball coach Jack Schrader has announced the signing of another recruit for the 2000-2001 season. Forward Scott Coykendal, a transfer from Spoon River Junior College in Canton, Ill., will join the Bulldog basketball program this fall.
A 6-5, 210-pound junior, Coykendal played two years at Spoon River and this past season earned regional player of the year and all-America honors. He was also named all-conference, academic all-America and regional tournament MVP, while averaging 19.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Coykendal, from Elmwood, Ill., attended high school at Farmington High School where he was an all-state performer and helped his team to runner-up honors in Class 1A in Illinois.
"Obviously with all of his accolades he's an outstanding player," Schrader said. "He can play inside or outside. He's very strong and an excellent ballhandler and three-point shooter. He's also a very good defender."
Coykendal joins the Bulldogs' recruiting class of forward Matt Beran and guards Eric Delaney and Aaron Mueller.
The Bulldogs are coming off of their third straight winning season, posting a 16-11 overall record in 1999-2000. Truman also made its fourth consecutive appearance in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association postseason tournament after finishing the regular season conference schedule with a 9-9 league record. Schrader has just completed his fifth year at Truman and has compiled a record of 73-67 (.521), including 42-18 (.700) over the last two seasons.
