Parker Named All-League in Norwegian Basketball Association
Former Truman State University all-America Cory Parker was named all-league in the Norwegian Basketball Association following the 2000-01 season.
Parker, of Guthrie Center, Iowa, averaged a double-double in his first year of professional basketball with the Kongsberg Penguins. He averaged approximately 19 points and 11 rebounds per game and helped the Penguins to the King's Cup championship. The team also finished as runner-up in the League Championship, falling in overtime of the title contest. The King's Cup and League Championship are the two major basketball championships in Norway.
Only one five-person all-league team is named, and the Penguins had two players receive the honor Parker and fellow American teammate Rodney Hawthorne. Former Truman head basketball coach Willard Sims, now the head coach of the Kongsberg squad, was named Coach of the Year.
"Cory really had a great year," said Sims, Truman's head coach from 1971 until 1995. "He was consistently strong and got better as the year went along. They really liked him over there."
Parker was a two-time honorable mention all-America and a three-time first-team all-conference selection while a member of the Bulldogs. He is Truman's all-time leading scorer and the second-leading rebounder with 1,835 career points and 955 career rebounds. Parker averaged 16 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in a school record 115 games as a Bulldog.
