The Bulldogs men's cross country team competed at the Iowa State Open last Friday in Ames, Iowa. The meet was a non-scoring event, but 13 Truman runners got their first taste of competition this season and its top returning runner, Alan Heincker (Dittmer, Mo./Grandview), showed he is ready for a big senior season.

Heincker finished third overall at the meet, including finishing ahead of all the Division I runners at the competition from Iowa State, Iowa and Drake. Heincker completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:45, finished 28 seconds behind the individual winner, Brent Wiberts, an unattached runner.

Junior Andy Person (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) finished second on the team and 25th overall with a time of 27:03. Jason Simpson (Liberty, Mo./Liberty) had the best finish by a Bulldog freshmen as he came in 28th with a mark of 27:07. Junior Jon Carl Rosario (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary's) was fourth on the team and 36th in the standings as he crossed the finish line in 27:37. Rounding out the top five on the team was sophomore Aaron Wells (Runnells, Iowa/Southeast Polk) who was 41st overall with a time of 27:43.
