Men's Cross Country Team Compete Against Top Competition at Notre Dame

Truman men's cross country team, ranked 13th in the country last week, finished 19th last Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational, a race that consisted mostly of NCAA Division I schools, including several nationally-ranked squads. The Bulldogs scored 488 points at the meet, finishing ahead of Mississippi State, Oakland, South Florida and Western Carolina.

Senior Alan Heincker (Dittmer, Mo./Grandview) led the team and finished 27th overall with a time of 25:19. Junior Andy Person (Wildwood, Mo./Ladue) finished second on the squad for the third straight meet. He was 80th overall with a time of 25:53.

Rounding out the top five for the team was sophomore Eli Klimek (Platte City, Mo./Platte County), freshman Peter Schaefer (Fenton, Mo./St. Louis U.) and sophomore Aaron Wells (Runnells, Iowa/Southeast Polk). Klimek was 117th overall with a season-best time of 26:20. Schaefer, competing in his first collegiate race, was 141st overall with a time of 26:49. Wells finished 143rd with a mark of 26:51.

The men's cross country will compete in the Border State Invitational next Saturday in Edwardsville, Ill. That meet will be the final tuneup for the team before the MIAA Championships on Oct. 25 at the Kirksville Country Club.
