Cross Country Squads Head To Texas For the NCAA Regionals

The Truman cross country teams will return to action this weekend when the two squads head to Commerce, Texas for the NCAA South Central Regionals. The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the men's 10,000-meter race will start at 10 a.m.

The top two women's teams and the top four men's teams at the event will advance to the NCAA Championship meet, as well as the top two individuals not on one of those teams. The NCAA Division II Championships will be held this year on Nov. 22 in Raleigh, N.C.

The Bulldogs men's cross country team is looking to make history at the meet. With a top-four finish, Truman will advance to nationals for a school-best fourth straight time. According to the latest regional poll, the team is favored to do just that as the team is ranked third behind Abilene Christian (Texas) and Missouri Southern.

At the MIAA Championship, the men's team finished second behind Missouri Southern by just a single point. Senior Alan Heincker (Dittmer, Mo./Grandview) was runner-up in that event and junior Andy Person (Wildwood, Mo./Laude) earned all-MIAA honors as well with a fifth-place finish.

Truman's women's squad goes into the race ranked fourth in the regional poll behind Pittsburg State, Missouri Southern and Abilene Christian (Texas). Last season, the team finished fifth at the regional competition.

The Bulldogs are coming off a good showing at the MIAA Championship, finishing third overall behind Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern. Freshman Meagan Robertson (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) and junior Dani Rawlings (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South) both earned all-conference accolades after finishing eighth and ninth, respectively.
