Bulldog Cross Country Coach to be Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Ed Schneider, the head coach of the Truman State University men's cross country team for the last 25 years, will be inducted into the NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Nov. 17 at a banquet preceding the national cross country championships in Pomona, Calif. Schneider will be the fourth inductee into the hall of fame, which is in its inaugural year.

Schneider, who began coaching Truman men's cross country in 1974, led the Bulldogs to back-to-back third-place team finishes in the 1994 and 1995 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. He has produced 45 all-America athletes on his cross country and track & field teams.

Under his guidance in cross country, the Bulldogs have won three conference championships and have placed in the top seven at the national championships three times. The team also has won three regional titles over his career, which has seen him honored many times with coach of the year awards.

Currently a member of the Truman Athletics Hall of Fame, Schneider was national champion in cross country in 1964, while running for the Bulldogs. He was a three-time all-America in cross country and won two other all-America honors in track and field. A St. Louis native, Schneider still holds the Bulldog track and field record in the mile with a time of 4:11.3.

Schneider's men's cross country squad, runner-up this year in the MIAA, will compete in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional this Saturday in Commerce, Texas. The top four teams and top two individuals from non-advancing teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships, which will be held Nov. 18 in Pomona.
