Men's Cross Country Finishes Second at University of Kansas
Six Bulldogs placed in the top 20, including a second-place finish by senior Andy Doering (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) as the Truman men's cross country team collected a second-place finish at the seven-team University of Kansas/Bob Timmons Invitational on Saturday.
The 'Dogs finished with 57 points to finish behind host Kansas, which won with a total of 28. DePaul University was third with 65 points, followed by Pittsburg State (Kan.)'s 88 points for fourth.
Doering, a two-time all-America and a two-time individual champion of the meet, ran the 8,000-meter course in 26:29.13 to place second overall, a shade under four seconds behind the winner.
Elsewhere for the Bulldogs, junior Pat Boyle (St. Charles, Mo.) came in 13th with a time of 27:43.28, while senior Brian McQueary (St. Louis/St. Mary's) was 14th in 27:56.44. Junior Dan Boyle (St. Charles, Mo.) was 16th with a time of 28:02.91 and junior Mike Nelson (Fenton, Mo./Northwest) was 18th in 28:14.61. Freshman Scott Downard (Norman, Okla.) rounded out the Truman top 20 finishers by placing 20th with a time of 28:21.44.
Truman will travel to the University of Nebraska/Woody Greeno Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 15 for its third meet of the year.
