Men's Cross Country Team Places Fourth at NCAA Division II Championships
The Truman State University men's cross country team collected a fourth-place finish on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Slippery Rock, Pa. It marks the fifth top-five finish in team history.
The Bulldogs placed three runners in the top 32 overall, led by an 11th-place finish from sophomore Alan Heincker (Dittmer, Mo./Grandview), who completed the 10,000-meter course in 32:18.6. Senior Andy Doering (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) placed 19th overall with a time of 32:35.2. Senior Ben Rosario (St. Louis, Mo./SLUH) was 32nd overall in 33:03.6.
Senior Brian McQueary (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary's) finished in 33:48.6 for 59th place while junior Pat Boyle (St. Charles, Mo.) was 63rd in 33:54.4.
Two other Bulldog runners, senior Mark DeBold (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) and junior Mike Nelson (Fenton, Mo./Northwest) were 120th and 129th overall, respectively, with times of 35:08.8 and 35:25.3.
Western State (Colo.) won the national championship with 38 points including three of the top five individuals. Abilene Christian (Texas) was second with 74 points, followed by Adams State (Colo.) in third with 107. Truman scored 167 points at the meet to outdistance fifth place Harding (Ark.), which had 202.
The Truman men's cross country team qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships by placing second at the South Central Regional earlier this month. Also among the Bulldogs' accomplishments this season is the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championship.
