Men's Golfer Austin George Wins The Heart Of America Classic

Austin George (Wichita, Kan./Andover) made the Bulldogs' first men's golf tournament of the spring a memorial one.

The junior shot a three-round score of 73-70-74=217 and tied for first at the Heart of America Golf Classic in Warrensburg, Mo. He then won the playoff to take medalist honors at the event. His second round score of 70 was a career-best for him.

Truman finished fifth out of 12 teams at the competition. The event was the first MIAA scoring event of the spring season and the Bulldogs remain in fifth-place in the conference standings.

A pair of freshmen were second and third for the Bulldogs. Jesse Helms (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro) was second with a 77-77-75=229, which tied him for 27th overall. Tyler Phillips (Kirksville, Mo./Kirksville) tied for 33rd overall after shooting a 78-76-79=233.

Rounding out the Bulldog squad was senior Jake Mann (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth) and junior Andy Crossett (Liberty, Mo./Liberty). Mann tied for 41st with scores of 85-76-75=236. Crossett was 52nd overall with a 82-78-84=244.

The men's team will be in action again on April 5-6 at the Missouri Western Invitational. That event is the final MIAA scoring event before the conference tournament.
