Austin George Has A Top-Five Finish As The Men's Golf Team Finishes Sixth
Led by a strong tournament by Austin George, the Truman men's golf team finished sixth at the Central Regional Fall Invitational in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
Four out of the top six teams at the regional came from MIAA schools, led by Missouri Western who won the tournament with a score of 604. The Bulldogs shot a two-day total of 637, finishing seven shots ahead of the seventh-place team.
George shot a one-under par 71 on Tuesday to move up to fifth-place in the final standings with a tournament score of 151. The 71 was a new career-best for George, beating the 72 he shot last year at the Missouri Southern Invitational.
Jesse Helms finished second on the team with a 162 which tied him for 30th place. Michael Spaulding, in his first collegiate tournament, tied for 34th, one shot behind Helms.
Rounding out the squad was Jason Bertram in a tie for 37th with a 164 and Tyler Phillips in a tie for 37th with a score of 170.
The men's team will be in action again on Oct. 4-5 at the Drury Tournament.
