Men's Golf Competes at Pittsburg State Invitational
The Truman State University men's golf team finished ninth out of 11 teams on Monday and Tuesday at the Pittsburg State (Kan.) Invitational. The Bulldogs carded a score of 624 for the event, which was played at the par 72 Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg.
Entering Day 2 of the tournament, Truman stood in fifth place after shooting a 306 in the opening round. That score was just 10 strokes behind leader and eventual winner Central Missouri. The 'Dogs carded a 318 on Day 2 and finished four strokes ahead of Pittsburg State.
Senior Justin Brewer (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) carded a 154 (79-75) to lead the Bulldogs and tie for 19th overall. Sophomore T.J. Erhart (Jefferson City, Mo.) finished with a 157 (76-81) and senior Jasen Matyas (Hannibal, Mo.) had a 160 (72-88). Juniors Rick Ewing (Warson Woods, Mo./Webster Groves) and John Anderson (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) rounded out the Truman scoring with a 162 (79-83) and 164 (85-79), respectively.
Central Missouri had a 593 (296-297) to win the tournament, while Drury placed second with a 604. Southwest Baptist came in third with a 610.
The Bulldogs will be back on the course next Sunday and Monday at the Quincy University (Ill.) Invitational.
