Men's Golf Places Sixth at Season-Opening Tournament
The Truman State University men's golf team finished sixth out of 10 teams on Tuesday at the Southwest Baptist University Tournament in Bolivar, Mo.
The Bulldogs charted a two-day score of 647. They logged a 314 to stand in fifth place after Monday's round, but finished with a 333 on Tuesday to slip to sixth place. The team finished seven strokes back of fifth place Southwest Baptist and two strokes up on seventh place Lincoln (Mo.).
Junior Rick Ewing (Warson Woods, Mo./Webster Groves) led the Bulldogs and tied for 14th overall with a score of 158 (75-83). Senior Justin Brewer (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) carded a 160 (79-81) and junior Louis Dersch (Charles City, Iowa) ended with a 163 (76-87). Sophomore T. J. Erhart (Jefferson City, Mo.) had a 168 (84-84) and senior Jasen Matyas (Hannibal, Mo.) carded a 172 (87-85).
Drury University won the tournament, played at Silo Ridge Country Club, with a score of 600 (295-305). Central Missouri State finished second with a 315 (301-314) in the first MIAA designated event of the year.
The 'Dogs will return to action on Sept. 25-26 at the District V North Invitational in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
