Men's Golf Finishes 12th at District V Qualifier

The Truman State University men's golf team competed on Monday and Tuesday at the District V Qualifier. The Bulldogs placed 12th in the field of 23 teams at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Senior Justin Brewer (Rochester Hills, Mich.) led Truman with a score of 150, which tied him for 24th overall. Brewer was helped by a second-day score of 69, following his Day 1 score of 81. Junior Rick Ewing (Warson Woods, Mo./Webster Groves) finished tied for 40th with a 153 (77-76).

Junior John Anderson (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) carded a 155 (79-76), while junior Lou Dersch (Charles City, Iowa) tallied a 159 (81-78). Senior Jasen Matyas (Hannibal, Mo.) rounded out the Bulldogs' quintet, finishing with a 160 (79-81).

Central Missouri State won the tournament with a score of 586 (297-289). Incarnate Word (Texas) and Drury (Mo.) tied for second with scores of 591. The Bulldogs' final tally was 615 (316-299). Places five through 12 were separated by just 14 strokes.

Truman was fifth among teams competing from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. In addition to CMSU, Missouri Southern (592) was fourth, Southwest Baptist (609) was ninth and Washburn (Kan.) (610) finished 10th. Pittsburg State (Kan.) (616) tied for 13th overall, while Missouri-Rolla (618) placed 16th and Missouri Western (626) finished 19th.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Oct. 2-3 at Pittsburg State University.
