Men's Golf Eighth at Missouri Western Invitational
The Truman State University men's golf team finished eighth out of 14 teams on Monday and Tuesday at the Missouri Western State College Invitational in St. Joseph.
Junior Lou Dersch (Charles City, Iowa) led the Bulldogs with a 156 (80-76) to tie for 18th overall. Senior Justin Brewer (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) wasn't far back, carding a 160 (83-77) to tie for 27th.
Drury University finished with a two-day total of 600 (310-290) to win the tournament by eight strokes over host Missouri Western (319-289). Central Missouri was third with 610 (312-298). The tournament was played at the par 72 Fairview/St. Joseph Country Club.
Truman ended with a 643 (324-319) to finish eight strokes back of seventh-place Missouri-Rolla and four strokes ahead of ninth-place Washburn (Kan.).
Senior Jasen Matyas (Hannibal, Mo.) and junior Rick Ewing (Warson Woods, Mo./Webster Groves) had scores of 165 and 166, respectively. Sophomore T.J. Erhart (Jefferson City, Mo.) rounded out the Bulldog group with a 170.
The tournament marked the final Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association designated event before the MIAA Tournament on Monday and Tuesday (April 23-24) in Bolivar.
Current conference standings have Central Missouri as the league leader with 31 points, followed by Missouri Western's 26. Missouri Southern (21) is third and Southwest Baptist (20) fourth.
Truman remains in fifth place with 14 points, while Washburn (13), Missouri-Rolla (11) and Pittsburg State (8) are close behind.
