Men's Soccer Heads to Indiana for Sunday Encounter
The Game: Truman State University Bulldogs (Independent/NCAA Division
II) vs. Indiana University/Purdue University-Fort Wayne Mastodons (Great
Lakes Valley/NCAA Division II)

Truman: The Bulldogs suffered their fourth defeat of the season in their only contest last weekend, falling 3-1 at home to the Midwestern State University (Texas) Indians. Matt Byers (Moville, Iowa/Woodbury Central) scored the lone goal for Truman off of a Heine Andersen (Helsingor, Denmark) assist a mere 42 seconds into the contest. The Indians tied it at one midway through the first period, then pulled ahead for good with Jackie Anderson's goal in the 55th minute. The 'Dogs launched 22 shots, but only 10 on goal, and Indians 'keeper Brian Blair saved nine to earn the win. Midwestern scored its three goals on 14 shots (nine on goal). Truman netminder TJ Dube (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) played the entire match for the eighth consecutive game. Dube made six saves to push his season total to 49. He has allowed 12 goals and currently has a 1.28 goals against average.
Series Record and recap: The 'Dogs saw their season come to an end at the hands of the Mastodons last season in NCAA tournament play. IU/PU-FW came to Kirksville and left with a 3-2 overtime victory, advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals. The all-time series is now even at 1-1. Truman was victorious 1-0 in the teams' only other meeting in 1994.
The Polls: Despite the loss to Midwestern, Truman resurfaces in the National Soccer Coaches of America/Adidas national rankings at No. 25. Truman also climbs a spot in the Central Region poll to No. 3 'dogs in NCAA stats: Byers' goal against the Mastodons was his 11th of the season. The Bulldogs' single-season goals record- breaker is tied for the 15th most potent goal-scorer in the nation with 1.11 goals per game.
The Dish on the 'Dons: IU/PU-Fort Wayne is off to a solid start in 2000, posting a 6-4 mark thus far. Five of the six wins have come by virtue of a shutout, including the most recent 2-0 whitewash of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville last weekend.
Junior Chris Kramer has done the most offensive damage for the Mastodons. Kramer has 11 points on five goals and one assist. Senior Jeff Richey has spent the most time in the net, logging over 622 minutes thus far. Richey has allowed only four goals while making 21 saves for the season for a GAA of 0.58.
