Men's Soccer Wins Fifth Straight With Overtime Win Over Drury
The Bulldog men's soccer team continued its season-best winning streak on Sunday with a 2-1 overtime victory over Drury, a Division I program in the sport of men's soccer. Truman is now 11-3-3 on the season and has won five straight contests.
Martin Clayes (Perth, Scotland/St. Columbus) was the star for the Bulldogs, scoring the game-winning goal in the 96th minute and assisting on the team's other goal in the first-half. Brenton Freeman (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) scored Truman's first goal, putting one in the net with less than three minutes remaining on the clock in the opening half. Freeman's goal tied the game as Drury scored first in the contest when Chris Greatwich had an unassisted score in the 28th minute.
Truman dominated the game and it took a good effort by Drury goalkeeper Tom Fulmer to take the game into an extra period. Fulmer made 10 saves in the game and Drury also had a team save as the Bulldogs took 20 shots and put 13 of them on goal. The Bulldogs' keeper, Nate Gibson (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville), had a quiet day as he did not make a save as the Panthers only had six shots and one shot on goal.
The Bulldogs return home on Thursday for their most important match of the season. The Bulldogs host SIU-Edwardsville at 2 p.m. on that day. The Cougars, who were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament last season by Truman, are currently ranked first in the region and fifth in the country.
