Men's Soccer Falls At Home To Rockhurst
The Truman Bulldogs ran into a tough Rockhurst (Mo.) soccer team on Sunday at the Truman Soccer Park, as the Hawks scored three unanswered goals for a 4-1 win. The Bulldogs fall to 6-3-3 on the season, while Rockhurst improves to 5-4-2.
The Hawks struck first with a goal from Cody Anderson on a two on one break. Anderson's shot beat Truman goalkeeper Nate Gibson (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) into the top corner for an early 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs responded at the 38:10 mark after senior Brenton Freeman (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) snuck one past Rockhurst goalkeeper Adrian Winnubst. Freeman's goal was assisted by freshman Drew Vogt (St. Peter's Mo./Fort Zumwalt West).
Just a minute and a half later, Rockhurst took the lead for good on an unassisted goal by Tom Becks. The shot came off a foul kick just outside the 18-yard box. Becks' shot went through traffic in front of the goal before finding the top right corner. Becks would go on to score two more goals in the second half, each about a minute apart from one another.
The loss was the first regular-season loss for the Bulldogs at home since Oct. 19, 2002, a span of 14 games, when the Hawks again were the visiting team.
Truman will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon when they host William
Woods (Mo.) for a 4:00 p.m. match at the Truman Soccer Park.
