Men's Soccer Falls To SIU-Edwardsville 2-1 In Key Regional Game
In a rematch of last season's NCAA Central region final, the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars picked up a huge win by defeating the Truman Bulldogs by a 2-1 score at Washington University (Mo.) in St. Louis. The Cougars improved to 14-2-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 11-4-3.
The Cougars scored a pair of goals in the first half, with the eventual game winner coming just :19 seconds before halftime off a corner kick. The Bulldogs attempted a comeback with a goal by junior Paul Link (Prairie Village, Kan./Rockhurst) assisted by freshman Drew Vogt (St. Peter's Mo./Ft. Zumwalt West) at the 63rd minute.
All four of SIU-E keeper Nicholas Frasca's saves came in the second half as the Bulldogs applied the pressure but could not get the equalizer. Truman was outshot in the game 11-9, with seven of the Bulldogs shots coming in the second half.
The game was moved to St. Louis after heavy rain and field conditions
in Kirksville would have made playing the game at the Truman Soccer Park
difficult. Truman will wrap up the regular season with a home game against
Missouri-Rolla on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
