Bulldogs Put A Dozen On Scoreboard Against Upper Iowa
The Truman men's soccer team wasted little time to begin their onslaught of Upper Iowa on Sunday. The Bulldogs scored five goals in the first 21 minutes of the game on the way to a 12-0 victory over the Peacocks.
Truman lead by a 7-0 score at the half with junior Martin Clayes (Perth, Scotland/St. Columbus) scoring three of the first four goals in a fifteen minute span. Junior Paul Link (Prairie Village, Kan./Rockhurst) opened the scoring at 1:42 of the game with sophomore Dan Gajewski (St. Peters, Mo/Ft. Zumwalt) assisting. Gajewski assisted on the next goal by Clayes for his first two points on the season and his career.
The huge offensive output was the team's largest since a 9-0 victory against Oakland City (Ind.) a year ago. Truman struggled earlier this season putting the ball in the net but today's 12 goals nearly surpassed the team's total for the entire season of 14.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nate Gibson (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) saw little action between the pipes. Gibson stopped the only shot he saw in the game on the way to his fourth shutout on the season.
