Assistant Coaches Named for Men's and Women's Basketball
Truman State University director of athletics Jerry Wollmering announced today that two individuals closely associated with the Bulldog basketball programs in the 1990s will be returning this year as assistant coaches.
Tim Deidrick, a former student assistant and graduate assistant coach with the Truman men, has been hired as the men's assistant coach. Marne Fauser, who played for the Truman women from 1996-98, is returning as assistant coach for the women's team under new head coach John Sloop.
"Marne and Tim will be two great additions to our basketball programs," Wollmering said. "It's nice to have two people come back to the University who have been involved in the programs before."
Deidrick, who replaces Sloop as the men's assistant under head coach Jack Schrader, has served the past three years as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Scottsdale Community College (Ariz.), where he was also employed as a college math teacher, tutor and academic advisor. At the Arizona school, Deidrick was responsible for on-the-floor coaching, recruitment and academic monitoring for the team, which he helped to three consecutive 20-win seasons.
While at Truman, Deidrick served three years as a student manager with the Bulldog squad and was a graduate assistant coach in 1994-95 under former head coach Willard Sims. Deidrick, who graduated from Truman with a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's in education, was also an assistant coach at St. Louis Community College from 1995-97.
Fauser was a two-year letterwinner for the Truman women from 1996-98 after playing her first two years at Illinois Central College, in East Peoria, Ill. While at Truman, Fauser served as team co-captain and was an honorable mention all-conference performer in 1996-97. The team's leadership award recipient in 1997-98, she served on the Captain's Roundtable in 1996 and graduated from Truman in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She has since served as a basketball and volleyball coach at Oak Grove West Middle School, in Bartonville, Ill., and has been employed most recently as a social studies teacher at Illini Bluffs High School.
The Truman men are coming off of their third straight winning season, posting a 16-11 overall record in 1999-2000. Truman also made its fourth consecutive appearance in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association postseason tournament after finishing the regular season conference schedule with a 9-9 league record. Schrader has just completed his fifth year at Truman and has compiled a record of 73-67 (.521), including 42-18 (.700) over the last two seasons.
The 1999-2000 Truman women's team posted a 17-9 record and hosted their first MIAA postseason tournament game after going 12-6 in league action.
