Redding and Warren-Grice Named Arthur Ashe, Jr. Scholars
Two Truman student-athletes have been named Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars for 2000. Junior running back Michael Redding was named to the first team, while senior guard April Warren-Grice was an honorable mention selection.
Redding finished second in team rushing last year, gaining 363 yards on 100 carries as a redshirt freshman on the football team, while posting an cumulative GPA of 3.83 in pre-business administration. The Lake Zurich, Ill., native led the team with three rushing touchdowns and also had 12 receptions for 72 yards and a TD.
Warren-Grice was a valuable reserve guard for the women's basketball team, playing in 21 games and recording a cumulative GPA of 3.23. She averaged 1.5 points a game and 1.0 rebounds for the Bulldogs this past season. Warren-Grice is from Rock Hill, Mo., and attended Webster Groves High School.
The Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars Awards were established by Black Issues In Higher Education to honor athletes of color who have served as examples of what the teaming of scholarship with athleticism can achieve.
