Preseason Camps Begin This Week

The 2000-2001 school year is close at hand and several Truman athletics teams will be reporting in the coming days, beginning with the volleyball squad this week.

VOLLEYBALL

Team members are to report on Friday at 12:30 p.m. with the squad's first two-a-day practice session to be held on Saturday. The Bulldogs will practice at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Following Sunday's practice, the times will vary the following week. Contact the Truman media relations office for further information.

The Truman women will open their 2000 season on Aug. 25-26 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha Tournament. The 'Dogs will first meet North Dakota State at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25.

FOOTBALL

The football squad will report on Wednesday, Aug. 9 for preseason drills. Two-a-days will start Thursday, Aug. 10 with practices set for 8:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. That schedule will continue through Sunday, Aug. 13. From Monday, Aug. 14 through Thursday, Aug. 17, practices will be held at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

On Friday, Aug. 18, the football team will practice at 9 a.m. but will hold an intra-squad scrimmage at 7 p.m. that evening. On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19-20, practices will be at 3:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., respectively. Regular in-season practices begin on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 3:30 p.m.

The Bulldog football season opens on Sept. 2 with a 12 p.m. home contest versus Northern Michigan.

MEN'S SOCCER

The Truman men's soccer team also reports on Wednesday, Aug. 9 and will begin two-a-days the following morning. From Thursday, Aug. 10, through Saturday, Aug. 12, the squad will practice at 8 a.m. and again at 5 p.m. The practice schedule will change the following week due to Freshman Week. On Saturday, Aug. 19, the 'Dogs will travel to Macomb, Ill. where they'll have an exhibition match against Western Illinois University. The Bulldogs begin their quest for a fourth straight postseason appearance on Aug. 25-27 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Classic with a 5:30 p.m. matchup versus Northern Kentucky University.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Truman women's soccer squad reports on Sunday, Aug. 13 and will begin with a fitness test the following day, with the first practice set for Tuesday, Aug. 15. The team begins competition on Saturday, Aug. 26 with an exhibition match versus Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. and opens the regular season on Sept. 2 at Minnesota State-Mankato. Here is the practice schedule from Aug. 15-19:

PICTURE DAY

On Sunday, Aug. 20, the volleyball, football, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's cross country squads will have picture day. The media is welcome to attend any or all sessions which will begin at 7 a.m. with men's soccer on the stairway at the north end of the quad on Normal Street. Women's soccer and volleyball follow at the same location at 7:20 a.m. and 7:40 a.m., respectively. The football team will have its pictures taken at Stokes Stadium at 8 a.m. The cross country teams will have their pictures taken at Red Barn Park, beginning with the women at 10 a.m., followed by the men at 10:15 a.m.
