Three Bulldogs to Receive Degree-Completion Grants

Three former Truman student-athletes have been selected for NCAA Division II degree-completion grants, the division's academic requirements panel announced.

Jamille Curry (Chicago/Morgan Park) and Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman), of the women's track and field team, along with women's soccer player Nicole Thorpe (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) will be provided financial aid in the form of the grant to complete their undergraduate degrees. The fund was established in 2001 to award financial assistance to student-athletes who wish to complete their undergraduate degree but have exhausted their athletics eligibility.

Curry completed her track and field career as a three-time all-America with the 4x400-meter relay team. She also won three MIAA championships in the 4x400 and 4x100 and captured the league's individual 400-meter dash crown in the 2001 outdoor campaign.

Williams also went out as a three-time outdoor all-America in the 100-meter hurdles. A two-time indoor all-America in the 60-meter hurdles, she won three conference outdoor titles in the 100 hurdles and three indoors in the 60-meter variety.

Throughout the careers of Curry and Williams, the Bulldogs never finished worse than third at the MIAA indoor or outdoor meets. The team swept both league women's track and field titles in 2000.

Thorpe was a three-time all-MIAA selection who played in all but two games of her collegiate career on the Bulldogs' three-time league champion women's soccer team. A defender, Thorpe tallied six goals and four assists in her career and helped the 'Dogs to a NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 2001.

To be eligible for the grant, student-athletes must be within 30 hours of their degree requirement.
