Head Swim Coach Seth Huston and Defensive Coordinator Mat Steinberg Resign Positions
Director of Athletics Jerry Wollmering announced today that head men's and women's swimming coach Seth Huston (St. Louis), and Matt Steinberg (Fond du Lac, Wis.), the defensive coordinator for the Truman football team, have resigned to take other positions.
Huston, who led the Bulldog women's swimming team to back-to-back national championships the last two years, will take over as head women's swimming and diving coach at Division I Rice University in Houston, Texas.
He served as head coach for the Truman teams for the last eight years and was named national women's coach of the year four of the last five years. Huston's 2001 national championship team was the first team national crown in school history.
"Seth's contributions to Truman State University and our swimming programs has been remarkable," Wollmering said. "His ability to recruit outstanding student-athletes is second to none. He will always be remembered for Truman's first team national championship, but more importantly, the major impact he had on many young people's lives will benefit the Truman community for a long time."
Huston's resignation is effective June 15 and a national search for his replacement will begin.
Steinberg will serve in the same capacity at Colorado School of Mines in Golden. He has been with the Truman football staff the last seven years and has served as defensive coordinator since 1999.
"Matt has been a valuable asset to our staff," head coach John Ware indicated. "His contributions as recruiting coordinator will also be missed."
