Truman Currently Fourth in Sears Directors' Cup Standings

Truman State University is currently in fourth place in the NCAA Division II Sears Directors' Cup standings, through four spring events as of May 23.

The Bulldogs have tallied 490.5 points thus far in 2001-02, ranking just 9.5 points behind third place Western State (Colo.). North Dakota has taken over the lead from Western State with 527 points, followed by Grand Valley State (Mich.) in second with 514. California-San Diego rounds out the top five with 461 points.

The latest version of the standings includes championships in the sports of women's golf and lacrosse and men's and women's tennis. Truman scored 20 points by making the NCAA postseason in women's tennis.

The Bulldogs are on pace for their best-ever finish in the seven-year history of the Sears Directors' Cup on the NCAA Division II level. The 'Dogs tied for eighth place in 1998-99 and have finished ninth in the standings in each of the last two years.

The final standings, to be made public on June 18, will include the sports of men's and women's track & field, softball and men's golf, sports in which Truman will accrue more Sears Cup points due to postseason appearances.
