Wollmering Named Athletic Director at Truman
President Jack Magruder has appointed Jerry W. Wollmering to the position of athletic director at Truman State University. Wollmering, who currently serves as associate athletic director of finance and administration at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, will begin his duties Sept. 15, 1999. He succeeds Walter Ryle, who retired this past June.
"Jerry will be an outstanding addition to the Truman and Kirksville communities. His experiences and skills will be assets to the entire University, as well as to the athletic program," Magruder said.
Wollmering earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in accounting from Drake University in 1987, and a master's degree in physical education with a major in athletic administration from Kent State University in 1993. He is also a certified public accountant with experience as an auditor.
Wollmering has been at BGSU since January of 1998 and served as the assistant athletic director for financial affairs there for two years before becoming an associate AD.
Before arriving at Bowling Green, he was an assistant athletic director at Southeast Missouri State University, a Division I program in Cape Girardeau, Mo., for a year-and-a-half. While working on his master's degree, Wollmering was a graduate assistant to the athletic director at Kent.
"I am delighted to join a university with such a rich athletic tradition and with what I consider the appropriate emphasis on the word 'student' in student-athlete," Wollmering said.
He is a native of Ft. Madison, Iowa, and was a varsity letterman in cross country and track at Drake. Wollmering served on the NCAA Division I athletics certification self study subcommittees for fiscal integrity and commitment to equity, and was a member of the NCAA peer review team.
Wollmering and his wife, Alicia, have two children.
