Women's Results of Day 3 Preliminary Round at NCAA Division II Swimming Championships
With the today's preliminary round complete, the Truman women appear poised to regain the top spot at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Canton, Ohio. Entering today, the third day of competition, the Bulldog women trailed first-place Drury (Mo.) by 22 points, 343-321, in the race for the team national championship.
In today's preliminaries, the Bulldog women qualified three athletes, junior Bridget Riley (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South), freshman Katie May (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and senior Jess Martin (Buckingham, Iowa/Cedar Falls), for the final in the 500-yard freestyle.
Martin has already won two individual national titles at this year's meet.
Additionally, two qualified for the consolation, where more points can be gathered, in the 500 free. Those swimmers were senior Bryna Busch (Leawood, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) and sophomore Liz Hug (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville).
The 'Dogs figure to collect more points still in the 100-yard backstroke, where four Truman swimmers will be the championship final, including May, freshman Krista Pray (Naperville, Ill./North), senior Andrea Newton (Clive, Iowa/Home-schooled) and sophomore Kelli Dudley (Topeka, Kan./Topeka West).
In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Alison Blyth (Clive, Iowa/Dowling) will swim in the consolation final.
For tonight's 800-yard freestyle relay, the Bulldog women are the top seed.
The NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships continue through
Saturday evening.
