CSCAA Announces Academic All-Americas
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America recently released its lists of academic all-America teams and individuals, and Truman was among the best in NCAA Division II.
For the second semester of the 2002-03 academic year, the Truman men's team finished second in DII with a grade point average of 3.24, while the three-time defending NCAA championship women's team was third with a 3.56 GPA.
Individually, 292 men earned academic all-America honors, compared with 223 last year, and an additional 150 men earned honorable mention honors. Senior Matt Pray (Naperville, Ill.) was the only Bulldog to make the first academic all-America list after finishing the semester with a 3.52 GPA, while juniors Ryan Jacobi (Florissant, Mo./DeSmet) and Bryan Meyer (Tonganoxie, Kan.) and freshmen Derek Duffy (Mason City, Iowa) and Chris Brammer (Omaha, Neb./Burke) all earned honorable mention recognition.
On the women's side, 223 earned academic all-America honors and 108 earned honorable mention status. Representing Truman on the all-America list are seniors Kelli Dudley (Topeka, Kan.), Liz Hug (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville), Ellen Frick (Manhattan, Kan.) and Sara Hatcher (Kingdom City, Mo./North Callaway); junior Allison Blyth (Clive, Iowa/Dowling); sophomores Diana Betsworth (East Moline, Ill./United Township), Sarah Dance (Lincoln, Neb.), Sue Ellen Thoma (Jefferson City, Mo.), Michaela Osborn (Tipton, Iowa) and Christina Blose (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North); and freshmen Kate Kresl (Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park), Meredith Rocha (Whitehouse, Texas/Grace Community) and Katie Funk (Iowa City, Iowa).
Honorable mention picks for the women included junior Calie Fulmer (Rosemount, Minn.), sophomore Gina Fettig (Billings, Mont./West) and freshman Kristin Halet (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park).
