Truman Swimming Defeats Western Illinois
On the road Friday night, the Truman men's and women's swim teams defeated Western Illinois. The women won 126-67 and took first in all 13 events. The men won 118-85 and captured first in ten of the events.
For the women, sophomore Diana Betsworth (East Moline, Ill./United Township) was a triple winner. She took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:53.84. She also placed first in the 400-yard medley relay with teammates Katie May (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central), Michaela Osborn (Tipton, Iowa/Tipton), and Christina Blose (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) and first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with teammates Meredith Rocha (Whitehouse, Texas/Grace Community), Whitney Jensen (Grinnel, Iowa/Grinnel), and Sara Hatcher (Kingdom City, Mo./North Callaway).
Other notable first place finishes on the women's side include freshman Kate Kresl (Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park) in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:11.13, achieving a B-cut. Sophomore Sue Ellen Thoma (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) won the 100-yard freestyle in a 54.89.
For the men's first dual away from home, senior Matt Pray (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) was a triple winner as well. He won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:56.59 and was a member of both winning relays. The first-place 400-yard medley relay consisted of Brian Teson (Kansas City, Mo./St. Pius X), Andy Harken (Liberty, Mo./Liberty), Pray, and Vince Struble (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) while the winning 400-yard freestyle relay was Pray, Robby Cooper (Holden, Mo./Holden), Jay Westensee (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island), and Josh Otis (Johnston, Iowa/Dowling).
Sophomore Eric Paden (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a 9:59.11.
