CSCAA Announces Its 2004 Academic Awards

The College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has announced their academic All-American teams and individuals, and Truman was among the best in NCAA Division II.

For the 2003-04 academic year, the Truman women's team ended up second in Division II with a 3.52 GPA finishing only behind the University of Indianapolis. The men also received academic All-American status with a 3.11 GPA.

Individually, several swimmers achieved CSCAA Academic All-American status as well. To receive CSCAA Academic All-American status, a swimmer must have a 3.5 GPA and qualify with an A cut for the National Championship meet.

The following women's swimmers met those requirements and were named academic All-Americans: freshmen Lindsay McReynolds (Bloomington, Ill.), Brittany Anderson (Dublin, Ohio), Emily Chadwick (Hutchinson, Kan.), Lija Kaleps-Clark (Westerville, Ohio), and Kathleen Moyer (Birmingham, Mich.); sophomores Meredith Rocha (Whitehouse, Texas), and Whitney Jensen (Grinell, Iowa); juniors Diana Betsworth (East Moline, Ill.), Sarah Dance (Lincoln, Neb.), Michaela Osborn (Tipton, Iowa) and Christina Blose (St. Charles, Mo.); and senior Alison Blyth (Clive, Iowa). The men's swimming team also had two individuals with these honors in sophomores Chris Brammer (Omaha, Neb.), and Josh Otis (Johnston, Iowa).

Other swimmers received recognition as CSCAA Honorable Mention All-Americans. To earn this award, swimmers must have above a 3.5 GPA and had earned a B cut for Nationals.

On the women's side, those receiving the award were: freshmen Brigit Brunsman (Dubuque, Iowa) and Shannan Schoening (Bettendorf, Iowa); sophomores Kristin Halet (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), and Jackie Lopez (Naperville, Ill.); and junior Sue Ellen Thoma (Jefferson City, Mo.). For the Bulldog men, Nick Joslin (Omaha, Neb.) also was named a CSCAA Honorable Mention All-American.

The Truman women's swimming team won its fourth straight NCAA Championship in 2004 while the men's team finished 16th at the national meet.
